With a population of over 200,000 people, Aberdeen is the third largest city in Scotland
and is situated on the east coast of the country. Following
the discovery and subsequent piping of North Sea oil in 1971,
Aberdeen is often given the nickname the Oil Capital of Europe.
The city has several
amenities and museums including the Aberdeen Art Gallery, the
Aberdeen Maritime Museum and the Marischal Museum which holds many
collections from the University of Aberdeen and around 80,000 items
of fine art, archaeology and Scottish history.
The thriving cultural
scene in Aberdeen also caters for music and film lovers with
everything from church choirs to pubs and clubs to be found. Belmont
Street in particular has become well known in recent years for it's
blossoming live music scene.
Aberdeen has a
thriving educational community with both the University of Aberdeen
and the Robert Gordon University available to students.

Local team
Aberdeen F.C. play in the Scottish Premier League and play
at the Pittodrie stadium. Aberdeen F.C have a very
successful history and were managed by Sir Alex Ferguson
during 1980's. One particular highlight of this spell was
when the team reached the European Cup Winners Cup in 1982.
The city centre
runs along the mile long Union Street ending in Mercat
Cross. This is the location of Castlegate, the one-time site
for the city castle. Kings Collage, St Andrew's Cathedral
and Provaost Skene's House are other popular historical
places of interest in the city.
If you are

city is well served by the national rail network. Trains run
regularly between Glasgow and Edinburgh and there is a long
distance train to and from London.
Local bus transport is provided by First Coach and The Stagecoach Group.
