Cambridge is an old English University city. Cambridge is regarded as the administrative centre of the county of Cambridgeshire. The main city is surrounded by a number of smaller villages. The population of Cambridge is estimated at around 130,000 people.

Cambridge has a long history and has existed since the times of the Roman Empire. There is recent evidence of a Belgic tribe have settled on Castle Hill in the 1st century BC.

Cambridge is famous for the University of Cambridge. This includes the celebrated King's College Chapel, Cavendish Laboratory and Cambridge University Library.

The beginnings of the University trace back to 1209 when students escaped from aggressive townsfolk in Oxford. They settled in Cambridge and formed a university there. Peterhouse (the oldest college that still exists) was formed back in 1284. King's College Chapel (one of the most impressive buildings in Cambridge) was begun in the 15th contrary by King Henry VI.

Cambridge (and its university) are well known for their university sporting events against rivals Oxford. The Boat Race and rugby union Varsity Match are two of the most popular and are followed by people worldwide. Punting is both a past-time and competitive sport with the Cambridge Dampers Club winning the Scottish Boat Race on several occasions.

Cambridge is located just 50 miles from London making transport links very good. In fact, several major roads intersect at Cambridge. The M11 (from East London) terminates in Cambridge. The A14 runs around the north of Cambridge but is often congested.

Rail links to Cambridge are good with a direct line to London King's Cross. There is also a shuttle service to London King's Cross every half hour (during peak hours) and takes approximately 45 minutes.

Air links to Cambridge are also catered for to some degree. Cambridge City Airport (owned by Marshall Aerospace) can accommodate some business and leisure flights but there is no regular scheduled services. Despite this, there are several major airports in close proximity including Luton and Stansted.
