Liverpool is a
major city in the Merseyside area of England with a large population
of over 430,000 people. If the Liverpool Urban Area is taken in to
account the total population is over 800,000 people.
Liverpool is situated on the east side of the Mersey Estuary and the
conurbation includes several outer towns like Haydock and St Helens.
Liverpool has a wonderfully rich and vibrant cultural history. The
Beatles are probably the most famous Liverpudlians. The band, made

Liverpool was name European Capital of Culture for 2008 with many

theatres in Liverpool including the Everyman Theatre, the Empire
Theatre, the Neptune Theatre, the Royal Court Theatre and the
Liverpool Playhouse.
The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra plays at the Philharmonic
Hall on Hope Street in Liverpool. Several festivals are also held in
the city. The Liverpool Biennial is a arts festival held in the city
ever two years. The festival is built around three sectors, the
Independents, the International and the New Contemporaries.
Liverpool has two Premiership football teams, Liverpool F.C and
Everton. Liverpool are one of the most successful clubs in English
football history and have famously won the European Cup on five
occasions. They've also won the league title on eighteen occasions
and the FA Cup seven times.
Liverpool is packed full of famous and popular landmarks including
2,500 listed buildings. Other landmarks include the William Brown
Library, St George's Hall and the World Museum. Anfield and Goodison
Park football stadiums are popular places to visit for fans to view
the trophies, museums and club shops.
Transport links to Liverpool are extensive. By air, Liverpool
Airport (recently renamed Liverpool John Lennon Airport) operate
flights to over 60 destinations including Paris, Barcelona, New
York, Rome and Berlin.
By rail, the Northern Line stops at five stations in the city. Lime
Street Station is one of the country's most famous train station and
travels to London in around two and a half hours. Other rail
destinations include Birmingham, Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester.
